1971 Attended Lanchester Polytechnic, Coventry, England. Awarded B.Sc. Mech.Eng.

1971-1976 Patent Department, Massey-Ferguson, U.K. Assumed responsibility for patent matters relating to tractors, earthmoving vehicles, hydraulic systems and engines originating in Europe, Australia, Africa and Asia. Duties included preparation of original applications, prosecution before Patent Offices worldwide, advising on infringement and validity.

1977 Dunlop Patent Department, Tire Division. Drafted and prosecuted patent applications relating to vehicle tires.

1977-1979 G. Ronald Bell & Co., Ottawa, Canada. Filed and prosecuted applications in Canada on behalf of foreign applicants, notably J.I. Case & Co.

1979 Qualified as Patent Agent.

1979 Joined Hirons, Rogers & Scott, Toronto, Canada. Drafted original patent applications for Canadian applicants, advised with respect to infringement and validity. Principal clients: UTDC Inc. and The University of Toronto.

1981 Qualified as Trademark Agent.

1982 Became partner in Hirons, Brown & Orange.

1986 Became affiliated with McCarthy & McCarthy. Provided patent agency services.

1987-1992 Represented Optical Recording Corporation in successfully licensing patents relating to compact discs to Japanese and European manufacturers.

1990 Resigned from partnership in Hirons, Brown & Orange and affiliation with McCarthy, Tetrault to join Sim & McBurney. Continued to represent UTDC Inc. (now Bombardier Inc.), Optical Recording Corporation, NOVA Petrochemicals Inc, The University of Toronto Innovations Foundation, Phoenix Fibreglass Inc. and Microhydraulics, Inc.
